CM inspects progress of Mithi River Development Project
Mumbai, May 29 (UNI) Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today visited six locations along the course of the Mithi river to check the progress made under phase one of the Mithi River Development Project.
He expressed happiness over the work carried out by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Mr Deshmukh said rehabilitation of people, affected by the project, had delayed the progress of the work in some places but assured that the deadline to complete the work would not be extended beyond June 5.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by BMC Commissioner Johnny Joseph and MMRDA chief T Chandra Shekhar.
In order to avoid recurrence of floods like the one in July 26 last year, the Chief Minister said the administration had taken every precaution. Apart from widening and desilting the Mithi river, plastics had been banned and electricity and telephone networks strengthened, he said.
The Chief Minister informed that the BMC will inaugurate its Disaster Control Room on May 31.
