Chuni fights for Nayeem
Kolkata, May 29 (UNI) Former Olympian Chuni Goswami today came out firing all cylinders for Syed Nayeemuddin, stating it was wrong to remove him unceremoniously.
Talking to reporters, Goswami said, ''It was wrong to remove Nayeem just after two matches. He should have been given more time.
I was in the selection committee that chose Nayeem and he had delivered winning the SAF Cup. He should have been given more chances to prove himself.'' ''Seven or eight of the first team players were injured or sick during the Japan and Yemen matches. What Mr Dasmunsi should have done is to sit with him and clarify things,'' he said.
''Nayeem is a very hard task master and players often disliked him,'' he said but added there was no lack of sincerity and commitment on the behalf of Dronacharya (Nayeem).
On Bob Houghton's appointment as a national coach, he said the Englishman is vastly experienced and the side would surely be benefited from him. ''I wish him all the luck,'' he stated.
