ANVC seeks lifting of ban
Shillong, May 29 (UNI) The outlawed Achik National Volunteers Council (ANVC) has urged the Centre to withdraw its ban on the outfit to facilitate a meaningful dialogue process.
''We have written to the government to lift the ban and we are awaiting a favourable response,'' ANVC publicity secretary Arist Sangma said yesterday in a message sent to a section of media.
He said they were awaiting a response from the Centre on the talks.
ANVC entered into a one-year ceasefire agreement with the government nearly two years ago and it was extended for another year in July last year. However, the government is yet to lift the ban on the outfit.
A Joint Monitoring Group (JMG) meeting between representatives of the government and the outfit was held in April to discus the cease-fire ground rules.
