Aditya, Aqeel, Kirtane sail into second round

Dehra Dun, May 29 (UNI) Aditya Madkekar, Nitin Kirtane and Pakistani Davis Cup star Aqeel Khan cruised into the second round of the 15,000 dollar ONGC ITF Mens Futures Tennis Tournament here today.

Aditya beat compatriot Vishnu Vardhan 6-1, 6-4, while Kirtane overcame Shivang Mishra 6-3, 7-5.

However, Kamal Kannan was no match for Aqeel Khan who beat him 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles, top seed Vinod Sridhar and Vishal Uppal went past unseeded Vishal Gaur and Kavan Sejpal, beating them 6-1, 6-0 to move in to the second round.

Meanwhile, third seed Tushar Liberhan and Navdeep Singh thrashed Sandeep Kumar and Honey Rana 6-1, 6-0 to set up a second round tie with Aditya and Purav Raja who beat Vignesh and Pavan 6-3, 6-4.

Arindham Datta and Aqeel Khan lost to the buoyant combination of Kirtane and Varun Walia 6-2, 7-5. Kirtane and Walia will now take on Vinod and Vishal in the next round.

The other team to enter the second round was Alon Moses and Vijit Sehgal who beat the Rahil and Vijay Paul 7-5, 6-3.
