78 child 'labourers' recused
New Delhi, May 29 (UNI) The city police today freed 78 children engaged as labour in 'Zari' (golden embroidery) units in Sarai Kale Khan area in South Delhi.
A team comprising Station House Officer of the area, Sub-Divisional Magisterate and activists of NGO 'Bachpan Bachao Andolan' led by Swami Agnivesh, raided some units near the Nizamuddin Railway Station and freed the children.
Owners of few of the units were arrested while police was on the look out for the rest.
The child workers were being taken children's shelter in the city before they could be send to their homes in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
The action came following a complaint by Swami Agnivesh, whose NGO had come to know about the plight of these children when they conducted a survey in the area.
