UPA govt, cheating people on Telangana issue: BJP
Hyderabad, May 28 (UNI) The BJP today said the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), a coalition partner of the UPA, must quit the UPA government as ''the UPA was cheating the Telangana people as well as TRS.
Talking to newspersons here, BJP's Andhra Pradesh unit official spokesperson Sheshagiri Rao alleged that the Congress was resorting to double standards on the Telangana issue by not announcing its clear cut stand on the issue.
The TRS would not be able to fulfil the dreams of the Telangana people if it countinued to be a partner of the UPA, he claimed.
Responding to the statement by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu at the party's ongoing 'Mahanadu' that seperate Telangana was not a solution to the problems of that backward region, he claimed that the TDP chief should acquaint himself with the history of Telangana and study the Fazul Ali Commission report on the formation of smaller states.
Alleging that the TDP was not a regional party but a 'family' run party, Mr Rao questioned ''is the TDP President ready to elect a Telangana leader as Chief Minister of the state if it comes to power in the next Assembly elections.'' UNI AP VV KD RK1400
