Twenty six people arrested, child labourers rescued
Mumbai, May 28 (UNI) Twenty-six owners of 'Jari' factories and hoteliers were arrested by city police and 141 children working as labourers were rescued from their custody at Shivaji Nagar, Gowandi in eastern suburbs here.
The raid was conducted yesterday on the instruction given by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil following complaint by non-governmental organisation (NGOs) about child labour in Jari Units and eateries at Govandi, police here today said.
Mr Patil had directed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ravindra Sengaonkar to conduct raid in Rafi Nagar, Lotus Colony, Padma Nagar and Road number 43, where the Jari units and hotels were situated.
The rescued children were shifted to remand homes and later they will be handed over to their parents or family members, police said.
