Training imperative for tackling ultras: Netam

Raipur, May 28 (UNI) Chhattisgarh Home Minister Ram Vichar Netam has stressed that training is imperative for comprehensive action against militancy.

''Naxals are low on morale and that is why they employ guerilla tactics instead of a frontal assault. The success of the 'Salwa Judum' anti-rebel campaign is making the extremists apprehensive and that is why they are slaying innocents,'' he said yesterday while addressing the valedictory function of a training course at the Jungle War College in Kanker district.

Announcing that jawans who completed the rigorous training at the college would get a week's special leave, Mr Netam presented certificates to excellent trainees who are among the third batch's 638 jawans. Personnel from Orissa and Jharkhand also benefit from the college.

''This facility was set up to train police personnel in jungle warfare,'' said Director-General of Police O P Rathore.

Former IPS officer K P S Gill, recently appointed security advisor to the state government, urged the jawans to treat their service as a mission.
