Samresh finishes 16th, misses another Olympic quota place

New Delhi, May 28 (UNI) Samresh Jung continued with his disappointing form and missed another chance to qualify for the Olympics, finishing 16th in the 10m Air Pistol event at the ongoing Shooting World Cup in Munich.

The Commonwealth Games multiple Gold medal winner shot a score of 580 with a series of 96,96,96,97,98 and 97 to miss another opportunity to book a berth in the 2008 event in Beijing.

The other Indians in the fray, Vivek Singh and Ronak Pandit, finished 64th and 93rd respectively. While Vivek shot a score of 572 (93,98,97,95,97,92), Ronak scored 565 with a series of 92,94,96,96,94,93.

The Gold in this event was won by Zongliang of China with a score of 689.2 (586+103.2), while the Silver went to Joao Costa of Protugal with a score of 686.3 (585+101.3). Russian Vladimir Isakov grabbed the bronze with a score of 684.8 (583+101.8).

The Olympic Quota place was won by Norayr Bakhtamyan of Armenia who finished seventh.

Meanwhile, in the women's section Shweta Chowdhary finished 19th in the 10m Air Pistol Women. She shot a score of 382 with a series of 94,97,98 and 93.

Annuraj Singh had the next best standing of 21st with a score of 381 (93,95,96,97) while Bronze Medallist in the Brazil edtion of the World Cup, Sonia Rai finished a disappointing 86th with a score of 369 (96,91,90,92).

The Gold in this event was won by Fengji Fei of China with a score of 487.6 (386+101.6) and Jasna Sekaric of Serbia and Montenegro won the Silver with a score of 485.4 (385+100.4). Chinese Luna Tao won the Bronze with a score of 485.1 (386+99.1).
