Saina Nehwal wins Philippine Open

New Delhi, May 28 (UNI) Saina Nehwal became the first Indian woman to win a major international badminton event with a 21-15, 22-20 victory over Julia Xian Pei Wong of Malaysia in the final of the Philippine Open in Manila today.

The unseeded Indian, ranked 86th in the world, had a dream run in the tournament pulling off major upsets against world number 31 Shutheaswari Mudukasan of Malaysia in the first round and top seed and world number four Xu Huaiwen of Germany in the quarter-finals.
