SAD sends documents to EC for disqualification of Cong MLAs
Chandigarh, May 28 (UNI) As desired by the Election Commission of India, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today sent copies of notifications and other relevant documents along with affidavits relating to 34 Congress MLAs holding office of profit for their disqualification.
Informing this here today, SAD Secretary Daljeet Singh Cheema said that the party demanded the disqualification of the Congress MLAs under article 191(1) of the Constitution for holding office of profit.
The SAD had filed a complaint on March with the Governor of Punjab against 34 Congress MLAs holding office of profit. Out of these, 19 were working as Chairmen of various corporations and boards and 15 as Chief Parliamentary and Parliamentary Secretaries, Mr Cheema said.
The Governor of Punjab had referred this matter to the Election Commission on April ten. The Election Commission in turn had asked the SAD to submit affidavtis and other relevant documents to etablish the truth by May 29.
The SAD has alleged that all these 34 Congress legislators were using government cards, houses and telephones and were drawing salaries and allowances due to them for holding the office of profit.
Thus, the party demanded that all of them should be disqualifed as members of the Punjab Assembly.
