Reddy slams TDP for not completing irrigation projects

Kankipadu, Andhra Pradesh, May 27 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy today charged the opposition Telugu Desam Party in the state of not showing interest in the construction of irrigation projects in the state when it was in power.

Addressing a public meeting here, Dr Reddy the TDP had totally failed on utilising the Krishna water by constructing the Pulichintala project. They had ordered for a survey before taking up the construction work and went back saying that the people raised objections on the construction as their villages would be submerged.

The government should have given compensation to the people and taken the initiative of constructing the projects that would benefit the farmers on a large scale.

He expressed disappointment on the attitude of some of the political parties for not lending a helping hand to the state government in the construction of the irrigation projects.

Dr Reddy said instead the parties were approaching the court to stall the ongoing works. However, the government had overcome the problem by obtaining permission from the central government.

He said Pulichintala project would be over in the next two years and the work on the Polavaram project, which was stalled for nearly a month, would be completed in the next two to three months.

Earier, he laid the foundation stone for starting the works of the Krishna river bund.
