Raman denounces naxal apologies as hypocrisy

Raipur, May 28 (UNI) Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh has described as hypocrisy the naxals' statements seeking ''forgiveness'' after constantly slaying innocents.

''Their seeking pardon is triggered off when they observe that the mask, covering their true activities, is drawing flak. By apologising on a piece of paper can they return lost lives,'' he said an interaction here last night with principal newspaper editors and other journalists.

The rebels, who have killed several tribals in Bastar area, issued the apologies after targeting traders in Pankhajur and mariage party members on the Maharashtra border.

''Despite all this, certain persons accord importance to naxals' false principles and ideals. The extremists should state what they desire from the government. Let them renounce the gun and come forward for parleys. The government is willing to openly discuss every issue with them, including development, education and land reform,'' Dr Singh assured.

Pointing out that more than 50,000 'adivasis' were forced to reside in relief camps due to naxal terror, the chief minister added that 'Salwa Judum' was a peace movement fuelled by locals.

''I urge senior journalists to personally visit affected areas and observe the condition,'' he said.
