One person killed in wall collapse

Mangalore, May 28 (UNI) A 40-year-old man was killed when a portion of the wall of his house collapsed at Atiavar area in the city today, following heavy rains for the last two days.

Police said the man was killed on the spot.

Heavy rains, which had shown signs of respite in the morning, once again resumed in the evening.

Due to the heavy rains, the Mangalore-Bangalore national highway near Thumbe was blocked for vehicular traffic for more than two hours. A lorry skid from the road and fell on the roof of a house near Thumbe. However, no casualty was reported.

Several trees were uprooted and electric wires snapped due to incessant rains in Udupi.
