Monarchy's future will be decided by constituent assembly polls
Kathmandu, May 28 (UNI) CPN-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal has said that people could abolish monarchy even before elections to the constituent assembly if the King tried to become active again, media reports said here today.
''The forthcoming constituent assembly will decide the fate of monarchy,'' The Kathmandu Post quoted Nepal as saying.
''But in case King Gyanendra tries to become active midway, people will abolish the monarchy immediately,'' he said.
Expressing skepticism towards the King's attitude, the Nepal said the Monarch should be ready to accept the people's verdict in the constituent assembly.
''People are still not convinced of the King's right behavior due to his past activities,'' Nepal said.
Praising the 25-point Code of Conduct reached between the government and the Maoists negotiation teams, he said the ongoing negotiations would not end without achieving the expected goal.
Maoists should convince people about their commitment to peaceful political movement and constituent assembly by laying down weapons, he said.
