Mizoram govt to invest on Women Self Help Groups

Aizawl, May 28 : Mizoram government has chalked out various measures to empower women in the state through Self Help Groups (SHG).

According to project plans, the government has instructed the state social welfare department to set up SHGs centre/retail outlet in each district headquarters.

Apart from this, training and marketing would be provided to the registered SHGs to enable them set up a supportive bank credit and saving system, official sources today informed.

The project also aims to generate a sustainable income for SHG women by providing financial assistance through various banks, motivating them for sustained activities even after the projects, besides giving special training to all SHGs across the state.

The nodal department would be developing a uniform ideology in creating movement for women, who do not have access to the formal credit delivery system and to enable them to setup a supportive bank credit and saving systems.

Currently, in Mizoram more than 90 villages were covered under Syaymasidha, an integrated project for women empowerment focusing on block specific scheme for a duration of 5-6 years, the officials said, adding more villages would be covered in the next fiscal, where the selected SHGs would be given special training about branding their products.
