Haryana govt to provide solar lanterns
Chandigarh, May 28 (UNI) Haryana government has earmarked a sum of Rs 2.6 crore for providing solar lanterns to 7990 beneficiaries in the state during the current financial year.
Giving this information here today an official spokesman said that out of this Rs 1.18 crore would be given as subsidy.
He said that women would be given preference in purchase of these lanterns. He said that an individual beneficiary and the non-profit earning institutions were eligible to get subsidy on purchase of such lanterns.
He also said that no individual would be given more than one lantern, adding that the solar lanterns were getting popular in the state.
The total cost of a solar lantern was about Rs 3300 while the state government was providing a subsidy of Rs 1500 on each lantern.
He said that a beneficiary would pay only Rs 1800 as the cost of the lantern after getting subsidy.
