First session of new Pondy assembly tomorrow
Pondicherry, May 28 (UNI) The twelfth, Pondicherry Legislative Assembly will meet for its first session at 1230 hrs here tomorrow.
Mr A V Sreedharan, senior Congress member elected from Palloor constituency in Mahe region of the Union Territory and appointed as the protem Speaker would administer the oath of office to the newly elected members in the House.
Pondicherry Lt Governor M M Lakhera will administer the oath to Mr Sreedharan at 'Rajnivas' at 1205 hrs to become a member of the territorial assembly.
The House is expected to adjourn till June 1 after the Members take oath. The election of Speaker and deputy Speaker is slated for June 1, for which filing of nominations has already commenced.
The nominations can be filed till 1230 hrs on May 31. It is expected that Mr R Radhakrishnan, the Congress member elected from Kuruvinatham constituency would be declared elected unopposed as the chances of the opposition fielding a candidate are remote.
The strength of the Opposition in the House is only seven.
