AMA to observe total strike on May 30
Ahmedabad, May 28 (UNI) The anti-reservation agitation of medical students and junior doctors over reservation to OBC's continued on the 15th day today in Gujarat and picked up further momentum with the Ahmedabad Medical Assocation (AMA) calling for a total medical strike in the city on May 30.
AMA Secretary Dr Mehul Shah told UNI that the entire medical fraternity will observe one-day strike on May 30. On this day, the doctors, including those of private practitioners and working in the private hospitals will also join the strike.
The doctors and medical students will take out a rally from Income Tax circle after garlanding statue of Mahatma Gandhi at 0930 hours.
Meanwhile, striking junior doctors and medical students today took out a rally from Vadilal Sarabhai hospitals to Gujarat College in Ellisbridge area of the city this afternoon to raise public awareness about their campaign and to generate support from the larger section of the society, information cell of 'Youth For Quality' by the B J Medical college students.
During this rally, some medicos wore famous Gandhi-Dhoti and Jawahar-cap with carrying banners which read: ''We are back''.
Meanwhile, the 48-hour long relay-hunger strike of medicos at the B J Medical college has been extended to 96 hours.
The medicos' strike has crippled medical services in general hospitals in the state causing problems to the patients. However, two junior doctors were attending duty in each shift in government hospitals to attend to emergencies. The health department too was co-ordinating with private hospitals to provide services in emergency cases.
Besides, medical students who organised a three-day blood donation camp collected 220 units of blood, mainly from students and junior doctors.
