Airtel to launch operations in Mizoram on June 20
Aizawl, May 28 : Country's one of the leading mobile service providers Airtel will be launching its operations in Mizoram and Tripura on June 20.
Talking to mediapersons here today, Chief Operations Officer in-charge of NE states Atul Chaturvedi said the company would provide both post and prepaid connections here. All technical formalities have been acquired, including the permission of using satellite and a Point of Interesection (POI) from the BSNL in Mizoram.
He also said the Airtel mobile service would also be launched in Tripura.
Airtel, who had earlier intended to launch operations by December 25, 2005, has set up 11 towers in Mizoram in the initial stage, and would gradually erect more towers to cover the entire state.
According to the officials, the Airtel has already got 16,850 post-paid applications and about 7,000 for pre-paid in Mizoram alone while its capacity is 85,000 connections for Mizoram and Tripura.
Initially the company would give about 20,000 connections and gradually the customer base would be increased, depending on the demands, the officials said adding at present Airtel is the largest mobile service provider in India with 22.07 million subscribers in 23 circles with a monthly revenue of Rs 10-crore.
