Unemployed youth commits suicide in HP

Una, May 27 (UNI) An unemployed youth committed suicide by immolating himself at Gagret area in Una district of Himachal Pradesh today, police said.

Ravinder Singh, 34, sprinkled kerosense over his body and set himself on fire at about 0930 hrs after bolting his door from inside. His family members were watching TV at the time.

His parents claimed that Ravinder, despite being a Commerce graduate with an ITI certificate, committed suicide after failing to find a job.

On noticing smoke coming out of the room, the family members broke open the door and rushed Ravinder to the Gagret Primary Health Centre where he reportedly gave a statement to the police, saying that he had taken the extreme step as he was unemployed and was not able to sustain his family.

Police said he died on his way to CMC Ludhiana where he was referred to after being given first aid at a local government hospital at Gagret.
