Six undertrials escape from jail in Thane

Thane, May 27 (UNI) Six undertrials lodged at the Dahanu sub-jail cut the rods of the entrance and escaped in the early hours today.

Police here said the undertrials, arrested by the police in connection with various offences including murder, housebreaking and others, had been lodged in the-sub jail of the taluka magistrate for the last about four to five days.

The sub-jail is located just about two km from the Dahanu police station.

Police said there were a total of eight undertrials in prison.

However, six of them escaped while two were left back.

Senior police officials have rushed to the scene and investigations are on into the incident as a team of armed guards is posted outside the sub-jail round-the-clock, police said.

Those who escaped were yet to be identified, but police said they all were from Dahanu taluka.
