SGPGI medicos call off strike

Lucknow, May 26 (UNI) Resident doctors of the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) tonight called off their week-long strike in protest against the proposed OBC quota in higher educational institutions.

SGPGI Resident Doctors Association president Amit Goyal told UNI the residents, in the ''larger interest'' and after an appeal by President A P J Abdul Kalam reached this decision. We have also talked to the Chief Secretary, he added.

The residents will resume duty from tomorrow. They went on strike last Friday.

However, the residents will wear black badges and organise awareness campaigns during weekends and holidays.
