S Easterlies bring relief, mercury drops to 39.6 C

New Delhi, May 27 (UNI) A fresh wave of South Easterly winds today brought some relief from the sultry weather conditions prevailing in the capital over the past few days even though the humidity levels rose to 50 per cent.

The high speed South Easterly winds, which began blowing through the air in the capital last evening, led to a drop in mercury to 39.6 degree C, one degree below normal, from 41.1 degree C yesterday. The minimum was recorded at 27.4 degree C, one degree below normal.

Sultry weather has prevailed in the capital for the past few days with a rise in mercury, coupled with an increase in humidity levels.

Yesterday's temperature to 41.1 degree C, together with rise in humidity to 42 per cent, saw a majority of people either remaining confined to their homes or the air-conditioned comfort of their offices.

The relief from sultry weather could stay tomorrow with the weathermen forecasting a partly cloudy sky with some rain and thundershowers accompanied by squalls in some areas in the next 24 hours. They have, however, predicetd a rise in maximum temperature tomorrow to 41 degree C.
