Mangalore, May 27 (UNI) The outcome of the recent assembly elections in four states clearly indicate that the Left parties are consolidating its position in other states, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Mohammad Samir, MP, said today.

Speaking at the inauguration of the three-day 8th State-level conference of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) at Nagori, near here, Mr Samir, also former General Secretary of DYFI, claimed that people were now more attracted towards the ideology of the Left parties which strongly stood for the working class, unemployed, farmers and downtrodden.

Coming down heavily on the BJP, he alleged that Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani and BJP President Rajnath Singh through their rath yathras were playing the hindu card to divide the society on communal lines.

He also charged the BJP with whipping up communal passions in Gujarat to establish a hindu rashtra. The BJP and the Sangh Parivar were becoming increasingly intolerant towards those criticising the administration of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, he added.

Describing the Congress and the BJP as two sides of the same coin, Mr Samir said both the parties continued its imperialistic policies having no concern for people's problems.

He said the Left Parties, providing outside support to the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, would not hesitate to withdraw support, if the Centre deviated from the Common Minimum Programme.

Expressing satisfaction over the DYFI's growth in Karnataka, he exuded confidence that its membership would cross one lakh by December, from the present 84,000.

The conference was earlier inaugurated by Shivamurthy Murugarajendra Swamiji of Brihanmutt, Chitradurga.
