Joseph Selvin selected for INSA award 2006
Tiruchirapalli, May 27 : Dr Joseph Selvin of Department of Microbiology, Bharathidasan University has been selected for the prestigious ' Indian National Science Academy (INSA) Medal' for young scientists, 2006.
According to a university release here today, the award was given to young scientists below 35 years to honour them for their outstanding contribution in the field of science and technology. The award carries Rs 25,000 cash, a citation and medale in addition to certain privileges like seed money for research and a foreign visit within five years.
Dr Selvin was selected for his outstanding contribution in the field of agriculture, particularly shrimp farming. He had developed an eco friendly shrimp disease management technology using bio-active molecules from green seaweed ulva, available in plenty along the peninsular coast of India.
The new technology developed by Dr Selvin would pave way for revamping of shrimp farming in a sustainable venture, the release added.
