Indonesia quake death toll climbs to 2,276

JAKARTA, May 27 (Reuters) An earthquake that shook the area around Indonesia's ancient royal city of Yogyakarta today killed at least 2,276 people, a government official said.

''The total for now is 2,276 people killed,'' Yuni Nuraini, an official at the Social Affairs Ministry's disaster task force in Jakarta, told Reuters by telephone.
