IIT students join medicos in protest march

Kolkata, May 27 (UNI) Students of IIT and other elite institutions joined a procession of junior doctors as the indefinite strike in the city's state-run hospitals continued for the fourth day today.

Holding placards and shouting slogans, about 5,000 medicos and students of IIT, Jadavpur University and Presidency College took out a 'grand' procession from Calcutta Medical College and Hospital in protest against the hike in OBC quota in higher educational institutions.

Parading the main streets in central Kolkata, they converged at the Shahid Minar for a rally.

Tension prevailed at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, when the authorities tried to open the Out Patient's Department, locked up by the agitating medicos.

Patients continued to suffer as services remained disrupted in five medical colleges and two dental colleges of the city following the indefinite strike by junior doctors.
