''High time medicos withdraw strike''-Yechuri

Kolkata, May 27 (UNI) CPI (M) Politbureau member Sitaram Yechuri today appealed to the striking medicos across the country to withdraw their anti-quota agitation following the UPA government's proposal to increase the number of seats in higher educational institutions.

''It is high time that the students withdraw their strike. The proposal for increasing the number of seats, if implemented will not affect any section,'' he told reporters on the sidelines of the party's two-day Politbureau meeting that began here this morning.

Mr Yechuri said the proposed incease in the number of seats was the right decision and would help resolve the problem following the decision to reserve 27 per cent seats for OBC in higher educational institutions.

The Politbureau is also likely to take up the issue of reservation, among other things, for discussion at its meeting.
