HAL unit to be upgraded to Division

Barrackpore, May 27: The Barrackpore unit of Public Sector Undertaking Hindusthan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) would be upgraded to a Division from next month, HAL sources said here.

The Barrackpore unit, being the oldest unit of aviation repairing in the country was being controlled by its corporate office at Bangalore. It will now have its Divisional Headquarters here, increasing the scope for jobs at this unit.

For the last few decades, the unit was being run with limited work force for overhauling of a few helicopters.

The formal announcement of upgradation is expected early next week, sources said.

HAL authorities might also announce some expansion programme for the unit, Employees union sources added.
