Gati aims at Rs 1000 cr business by 2009

Kolkata, May 27: Cargo and courier services company Gati Ltd is aiming at Rs 1,000 crore turnover by 2009.

The company's total business stands at around Rs 400 crore at present, its chief business chain officer Simon Arthur Bertie said here today.

The logistic solutions and supply chain management company would invest 100 million US dollars by 2009 for augmenting business. The investments would be funded through internal accruals and debts, Bertie said.

Gati would set up 1,500 customer convenience centres, 62 express distribution centres and a central distribution centre at Nagpur in the next three years to provide complete logistic solutions to its customers. The centres would be set up near the industrial areas.

Apart from opening offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Hongkong and Singapore, the company is looking at extending its reach to Dubai, Thailand, Europe and America.

Gati already operates in most of these markets through joint venture partners, the executive said.

The company following a July to June calender is hoping to double profits from Rs 14 crore last year.

Bertie said the company, covering 580 districts in India, would set up its eastern logistic hub in 5.3 acres of land at Alampur in West Bengal.
