New Delhi, May 27 (UNI) Chairman ASSOCHAM Expert Committee on Environment Shekhar Borker has called upon the government to come out with a suitable policy on disposal of e-waste as soon as possible.

The disposal and recycling of e-waste in the country had assumed serious proportions as methods of disposal remained rudimentary and hazardous, he said speaking at a seminar on 'E-waste Policy for India', organised by the ASSOCHAM here yesterday.

''Our country has to cope up with the waste coming in from other countries due to loopholes in the existing regulatory mechanism,'' he said.

In his keynote address, Additional Director, Central Pollution Control Board R S Mathure said the real challenge in the management of e-waste was its collection from a large number of scattered sources.

Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chavan in his message called for formulation of a holistic e-waste policy.

Mr Ravi Agarwal, director Toxic Links gave his perspective relating to policy and legislation.
