'Aamir Khan should better confine to acting only'

New Delhi, May 27 : Taking exception to the diatribes and insults heaped on the BJP as a ''party of rioters'' by Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, the party today said it would be better if the actor confined himself to acting only rather than entering unknown areas.

Party spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the party had not given any call for the boycott of Aamir Khan starer 'Faana' in Gujarat or any other state, and it was improper on the part of the actor to link the party with the movie that has run into trouble because he had offended the emotional sentiments of the people of a state.

''He is an actor and we want him to come out of diatribe mode if the people are to take him seriously,'' Mr Javadekar exhorted the actor, who has been taking potshots at the party in the past.

Meanwhile, BJP activist Gajendra Chauhan, who played the role of Yudhistir in television megaserial Mahabharat, said he had nothing against Fanaa'. However, it was unfortunate that Aamir had said defamatory things about a party which ruled the country for six long years. ''He is a good actor, but a bad leader (Accha abhineta magar bakwas neta), '' he said and asked Aamir to understand facts before taking on the offensive.

He said it was wrong on the part of Mr Khan to brand the people of one state as rioters just because they were emotionally attached to Narmada waters. ''Has Mr Khan seen the troubles and turbulance undergone by the water parched people of Gujarat?'' he asked.

Mr Chauhan, an Executive member of Cine and Television Artistes Association (Cinta), said Mr Khan was a member who never took active interest in the running of this organisation meant to work for the welfare of the cine artistes. He is now seeking support of this Association just because he is in trouble after offending the sentiments of the people and dragging the name of the BJP without any cause.
