7 MP rivers to be cleaned

Indore, May 27 (UNI) Seven rivers in Madhya Pradesh have been included under a national project for environmental cleaning of 34 rivers spread over 20 states.

Cleaning of the rivers near 160 urban habitations will entail an expenditure of Rs 4735.42 crore and this project has already been cleared by the Environment and Forest Ministry, official sources said.

The Ministry had also approved Rs 101.19 crore for the cleaning of seven rivers in Madhya Pradesh located near 11 urban habitations.

Indore's Khan river is being restored after removing all encroachments at a cost of Rs 42.19 crore, Kshipra river at Ujjain at Rs 24.92 crore, Narmada river at Jabalpur at Rs 13.80 crore, Tapti river at Burhanpur at Rs 5.25 crore and Chambal river at Nagda at Rs 3.72 crore.

Sanction was also received for cleaning of the Betwa river at Bhopal, Mandideep and Vidisha at total cost of Rs 8.62 crore and the Bainganga river at Chapara, Kevlari and Seoni at a cost of Rs 2.64 crore.
