3-day blockade called off today

Bankura, May 27 (UNI) A three-day economic blockade by the Maoists in South Bengal area to protest the loot of local resources, like coal, land and minerals, was called off on the second day today.

"The blockade was withdrawn after a meeting of the Maoist core-committee in Hazaribagh last evening,'' a supporter said here.

''There was a mixed response of the blockade by the Maoists. In Ranibandh (Bankura), Bandwan (Purulia) and Belpahari (West Midnapore) the blockade was successful and the vehicles did not ply yesterday,'' sources said.
