12 physically challenged get over 90%, one gets over 95% in class X

New Delhi, May 27 (UNI) In a unique achievement that could serve as role model for many, 13 physically-challenged students have this year secured more than 90 per cent marks in the CBSE Class X exams, the results for which were announced this morning.

One of the 13, R Govind from Sree Narayana Trust Central School in Kollam, Kerala, secured more than 95 per cent marks in the Class X exams, CBSE chairman Ashok Ganguly told reporters here.

''Students like R Govind are role models for others like them as through their performance they have shown that disability cannot serve as a handicap,''he said.

Among the 12 physically handicapped students was a student from Delhi, Saurabh Prasad Singh from Ved Vyas Public School in Vikaspuri who secured 453 out of 500 marks in the exams.

Among the others who secured more than 90 per cent were Ayush Bhutani from DAV Public School in Faridabad, Haryana who got 473 out of 500 marks, T R Vishal Krishna from Alappuzha in Kerala (467/500), Gaurav Jeevan Gathu from Thane (462/500), Rachir Maheshwari from Chennai (461/500), Nithin Mathew Kurien from Kottayam in Kerala (459/500), Gunjan Jain from Sonepat(458/500), Shalabh Pratap Singh Chauhan from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh (458/500), Ninand Anil Limaye from West Mumbai (457), Goldi Sharma from Panipat in Haryana (455), K Jeethendra from Bellary in Karnataka (454), and Amit Bansal from Haryana (451).

''The performance of these students is specially remarkable as it come despite their disabilities. It goes to prove that physical deformity cannot be a bottleneck in the path to success,''Dr Ganguly said.

A total of 950 physically-challenged students appeared for the class X CBSE exams this year.
