1,000 schools to be upgraded in Bengal
Kolkata, May 27 : The West Bengal Government has decided to upgrade 1,000 secondary schools opening up employment for altogether 4,000 teachers.
''The Government has decided to upgrade these institutions into high schools and high madrassas from the next academic session necessitating recruitment for 3,000 teachers and 1,000 non-teaching employees,'' Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta and School Education Minister Partha De said at a joint press conference today.
Dr Dasgupta said the Government move would entail an annual expenditure of Rs 42 crore besides Rs 79 crore for infrastructure development and other purposes in addition to the present Rs. 4,500 crore.
The decision had been taken to reduce the heavy burden on the existing schools for admission after the Madhyamik examination.
