Varun Chopra becomes second youngest player to score a ton in County
London, May 26 (UNI) Essex opener Varun Chopra became the second youngest player to score a first-class century for the County when he scored a hundred in the Championship match against Gloucestershire on day three at The Ford County Ground today.
The 18-year-old Indian origin cricketer is behind Stephen Peters, who had scored 110 against Cambridge University in June 1996 at the age of 17 years and 194 days.
Chopra now dethrones AJ Turner, who was 19 years and 44 days when he scored 111 against Yorkshire in July 1897.
The other teenagers to score first-class centuries for the club were Alan Lilley, Paul Prichard and Alastair Cook.
