Three militants killed, CRPF picket attacked in J and K

Srinagar, May 26 (UNI) Three militants were killed and a woman was injured while a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) picket was attacked in the Jammu and Kashmir overnight, official sources said.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police of Doda range Mr L T Mohanty told UNI, hat it was not clear whether these militants were killed in an encounter with security forces who were also in the area for carrying out anti-terrorists operation.

Mr Mohanty said the slain militants were of Harkat-ul-jehadi Islamic outfit but their identity could not be immediately established. It was also not clear how much arms and ammunition was recovered from them.

Militants today attacked a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) picket near National Istitute of Technology (NIT) at Hazratbal while one live grenade was found outside the boundary wall of Mughal garden Harwan.

Official sources said militants hurled a hand grenade towards a CRPF picket near the NIT. However, the grenade missed the intended target and exploded at a distance without causing any damage.

The live hand grenade, found outside the boundary wall of the Harwan garden, was later defused by the bomb disposal squad.

A woman was injured in a cross fire between militants and security forces at Rawali in Udhampur district of Jammu region last night. She was hospitalised, but the militants managed to ecape.

Security forces arrested an upper ground worker of a militant outfit and recovered one AK rifle, two UBGL, two hand grenades and one Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Shadipora in the frontier district of Kupwara.
