Sonia assures Rebia on varsity conversion

Itanagar, May 26 (UNI) Congress president Sonia Gandhi has assured Rajya Sabha MP from Arunachal Pradesh Nabum Rebia of facilitating conversion of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) into a central university.

Rebia, who called on Ms Gandhi at 10 Janpath in New Delhi recently, informed that he pleaded before the Congress president to take up the matter with Human Resource Development Ministry so that an ordnance could be issued before the next academic session in July.

The Bill to that effect could be introduced in the Parliament latter, he suggested.

Rebia conveyed the sentiments of people of the state over the inordinate delay in fulfilling the promise.

Responding to his pleas, Sonia assured that the party was committed to the matter, Rebia informed.

Though the state's MPs raised the matter many a times in the Parliament, the Centre is yet to take an action.
