Sensex up 248 pts at 10,914

Mumbai, May 26 (UNI) Having crossed 11,000 mark once again after the recent crash in the mid-morning session, the 30-share Sensitive Index (Sensex) of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was trading 248 points up at 10,914 points at about 1315 hrs.

Earlier in the morning, the markets opened stronger with the Sensex opening 69 points up at 10,735 points as compared to the last close of 10,666 and then went on to touch a high of 11,050 points.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty index opened flat at 3,177 points unchanged from the last close of 3,177.

Nifty went up by 100 points to a high of 3,277 points in the mid-morning session. It was trading at 3,229 up by 62 points at 1330 hrs.

All the sectoral indices were in the green with the BSE Metal index gaining maximum of 4.33 per cent, BSE Capital Goods index was up by 3.65 per cent, BSE Consumer Durable index was up 2.97 per cent and BSE FMCG index was up by 2.83 per cent.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Tata Steel, HDFC, Cipla, Bajaj Auto, Larsen&Toubro, BHEL, Infosys, Hero Honda, ITC and Grasim Industries. L&T was up by 4.34 per cent to Rs 2,395 in the afternoon buoyed up by the proposed bonus issue.

Among the top losers were Wipro, Tata Power, Bharti Tele, TCS and Hindalco.
