Senior citizens pledge to donate cadavers to hospital
Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu May 26 (UNI) Six persons, including five senior citizens, have pledged to donate their cadavers to the Government Medical College at Thanjavur.
''Burning or burying the body is of no use to society. Let my body at least be useful to the students of the Medical College to learn something from it,'' K S Krishnamurthy (80), told UNI.
Mr Krishnamurthy, who was in public life for the past 30 years, was town secretary of the Dravidar Kazhagam (DK). ''Donating my cadaver is not an achievement for me. But medical students can achieve something from it,'' he said.
For Kumbakonam Ramasamy Krishnamoorthy, popularly called Kura Krishnamoorthy, a noted cinema lyricist of yesteryears, the decision to donate his body was taken because he wanted to be a role model for the younger generation. He was still a bachelor, now living with the help of his friend. He had written hit songs in many old Tamil Films like 'Kuravanchi' for which the dialogue and story was penned by the present Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. The 84-year-old has authored several books.
''I always had a thought in my mind since my childhood that I should be useful to society and so I took the decision along with my friends,'' he said.
