New Delhi, May 26 (UNI) Recurring cases of farmer suicides are matters of deep concern and fresh interventions are needed from the Government in the agriculture sector to arrest the trend, the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha said today.
The Centre should take all measures to ensure farmers get fair price for their produce, grant industry status to agriculture, end contract farming and supply subsidised power and water to the sector, a ABHM statement said.
Farmers should also be protected from market fluctuations through effective crop insurance schemes, it stated, adding that farm suicides were directly related to ineffective and faulty Government policies and measures.
The Government should wake up and take effective steps now before more indebted farmers take their lives, it said.
