NUJ warns of agitation if setting up wage board is delayed
New Delhi, May 26 (UNI) National Union of Journalists today demanded that the government must immediately honour its obligation under the Working Journalists Act and set up wage board for working journalists and other newspaper employees without further delay.
If any more delay was done, journalists and other newspaper employees would together further intensify their agitation by resorting to all legitimate methods, including preparing for direct industrial action to compell the government to concede the demand, NUJ, President N K Trikha said in a statement.
The national executive of the NUJ at its meeting held at Hyderabad recalled the assurance given by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to a high-level delegation, comprising leaders of all major national federations of journalists and non-journalists employees under the aegis of the Confederation of Newspaper and News Agency Employees' Organisations, to consider the demand and regretted that there appeared to be no further movement in this direction, it added.
