NTPC entrusted with rural electrification
Mumbai, May 26 (UNI) The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has been entrusted with rural electrification work in around 40,000 villages spreading over 30 districts across the country.
The company's wholly owned subsidiary NTPC Electric Supply Company Limited (NESCL) is assisting the central government's scheme for rural electrification under 'Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidhyutikaran Yojna' (RGGVY) to make power available in the remote areas for the poor, according to an official release here today.
Under this scheme, the Central Government would provide 90 per cent as grant and remaining 10 percent as loan to the state utilities.
NPTC has joined hands with State Utilities and six State Goverments - West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Uttaranchal for the purpose, the release added.
