NCRLM to submit its report on minority groups by Oct: Justice Misra
Ahmedabad, May 25 (UNI) The high-level National Commission for Religious and Linguistic Minorities (NCRLM), which had covered almost two-thirds of the country to identify socially and economically backward sections among religious and linguistic minorities, is expected to submit its report by October.
The commission's chairman, Justice (Retd) Ranganath Misra, and its Member-Secretray Asha Das, who arrived here yesterday on a two-day long visit to Gujarat, met Chief Minister Narendra Modi, many of his ministerial colleagues, senior government officers, NGOs and leaders of the minority linguistic and religious groups.
The former Chief Justice of India said the task before the commission is to suggest criteria for identification of such minority groups and recommend welfare steps for their upliftment, including reservation in education and government employment.
Other members of the commission are Prof Tahir Mahmood, Anil Wilson and Dr Mahinder Singh.
The commission has so far covered Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, J&K, WB, MP, Bihar, Karnataka, Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Uttaranchal, Delhi, Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Andaman&Nicobar and Pondichery.
