Man pays price of matchbox with life

Barasat, May 26 (UNI) A 36-year-old man was killed at Duttapukur Netaji palli under Barasat police station allegedly because he did not pay the price of matchbox, police said today.

The incident occurred late last night following an altercation between Shyamal Roy and a local shop-keeper from whom the victim was said to have purchased a packet of matches but failed to pay the price. This resulted in a scuffle between them while a gang of miscreants seriously assaulted Roy and killed him on the spot.

Police recovered the body and arrested 11 people in this connection. Roy, who is from Tripura was living with his in-laws here in Netaji Palli.
