Round Table Conference a seminar, says Mirwaiz
Srinagar, May 26: Describing the recent two-day Round Table Conference chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as a seminar, chairman of the moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Omar Farooq said participation of India, Pakistan and representatives from both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) was necessary to find a lasting solution to the Kashmir issue.
Addressing the Friday congregation at the historic Jamia Masjid here this afternoon, the Mirwaiz said under the amalgam's constitution, they were committed to participate in negotiations which were held to address the core Kashmir issue only.
He said for any meaningful dialogue process it was necessary to involve India, Pakistan and leadership from both sides of the LoC.
The Mirwaiz said the HC was already engaged in talks with India, Pakistan and leadership in occupied Kashmir, and its effort was to take the discussions forward to make them success so that a solution acceptable to all was reached.
He said the Roundtable conference held here on May 24-25 gave the impression that Kashmir issue was just a problem of some concessions between the people of the state and Centre, which was not a fact.
The Indira-Sheikh and Rajiv-Farooq accord on these lines also proved a failure, he said.
