HC reserves orders on Ajnala's plea against corruption case
Chandigarh, May 26 (UNI) A division bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court today reserved its verdict on the plea of Akali Lok Sabha member Dr Rattan Singh Ajnala to quash the proceedings in an Amritsar court in connection with a case of corruption registered against him by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau.
Dr Ajnala had challenged the registration of the case arguing that the mandatory prior permission of the Speaker had not been secured by the authorities before the FIR was registered.
The state government responded saying Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Dr Kewal Krishan had given his permission in the matter.
The case pertained to the period when Dr Rattan Singh was a member of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha before being elected to Parliament.
