Govt to promote sports in Bihar
Patna, May 26 (UNI) Bihar government has decided to hold tournaments and championships throughout the year 2006-07 to promote sports in the state.
While releasing the sports calendar, Bihar Sports Minister Janardan Singh Sigriwal said here today that the sports events would be held to make the environment more friendly and healthy. He said as per the basis of the calendar, the sports events would be held in 537 blocks of the state.
On the basis of the championships to be held right from blocks to state level, the sports persons would constitute sports teams and these teams would be sent to the national level championships by the state government.
Mr Sigriwal disclosed that Rs 65 lakhs 50 thousand and 945 Rupees would be spent on organising the sports adding that altogether 19 games had been included in the events' list. In order to provide equal opportunity to the disabled separate sports programmes would be held for them. For reviving the separate identity of the rural sports, school sports and women sports, all the related events would be held separately.
The new games and sports included in the sports calendar are Taiquando, Fencing, Lawn Tennis and Swimming, the minister informed and added that the selected sports persons would be imparted a short training before joining the national championship.
